I love this piece, such an original concept. What media do you use? I'm especially curious as all I've ever used is black/white cartridge paper; the earthy colour of the paper works so well in your sketches, but I can't imagine recycled paper or plain brown paper surviving most media without buckling.

And... I thought at first that perhaps you had made up a Space Invader stamp, but they're all individually drawn...yes?

Difficult question, I used loads of differnt mediums for this piece. The ground, gun and characters were drawn with a combination of black ink and fineliner pens with a small amount of white ink for highlights.

The white areas around them were done with a simple white colouring pencil and the invaders were drawn with a felt tip.

Basically, long story short, this recycled paper can withhold most media if you are carefull, though ive found when painting large areas with inks it has buckled slightly, but to no great dergee.

For the Space Invaders I did draw them each individually, but before I started I made a small simple stencil to draw around to get them all about the same shape and size.

Thanks for your comment, and all your interest, and sorry about the essay I replyed with.

Mais non, essays are good! Not that I would call it an essay; they need to be long, winding, and boring. Observe.

Thanks very much for the detail, it's very interesting to see - well, read - how this piece was put together.

Whenever I see a piece like this I tend to imagine that there's some sort of mystic artistic secret technique I simply don't have the faculties to master, and think that I should go sit in the No Art corner and think about my sins against aesthetics. Knowing that it's somewhat simpler than that encourages me to get out and experiment a bit without the mental barriers :)

Oh and while this may not seem directly applicable, my being all the way down here in the colony and all, do you find sketchbooks with recycled paper easy to come buy or do you have a certain supplier you rely upon (or a certain brand you trust in)? Or are they just sold as scrapbooks or the like?

Ta again.

Yea, I would say just concentrate on doing what looks good, because in the end thats all that matters, and the more time you spend experimenting with new combinations, the more you'll find your own signiture.

I found the book I used hard to find because I wanted a specific size and I wanted it to be hardback and properly bound, but I didnt find the paper hard to find at all. In most stationary or art shops I found something similar, my advice is to just go browsing in the paper or sketchbook section, good luck.

Ta! Normally I run into problems with paint and some inks what with bleeding and all (I have a very poor eye for paper, it would seem), but hopefully throwing myself upon trial and error with grant me a more practiced eye :)

Recently tried to sort through all my sketchbooks and collected resources - now I have so much randomly mixed media lying around at the moment, should be fun ;)
